For our first spotlight, we sat down with quality control expert Kevin Lloyd Polk, one of the most recognizable faces out in the field for Action Roofing on a day-to-day basis. Prior to working at Action Roofing, were you in the roofing industry? If so, how has that experience helped you in your role at Action Roofing?
I was previously a manager at H-E-B Grocery for 14 years, and H-E-B prides itself on excellent customer service. The secret is listening to the customer and helping them meet their needs, so that they can walk away satisfied and happy.
How has your previous professional experience helped you in your role at Action Roofing?
Spending four years in the military has definitely been a plus and given us a leg up over other local roofing companies. I knocked on over 500 doors in Killeen, Texas over the course of about eight days after a very bad wind and hail storm. The majority of the customers there are in the Army and stationed at Fort Hood. When I met them I would thank them for their service and mention that I was in the service as well. It’s been a great ice-breaker and usually led to us swapping some great stories.
Favorite thing about your job:
For me, it’s been traveling around Central Texas and meeting customers.
Favorite part of being on the Action Roofing team:
I really appreciate the great family-owned values and the potential for a very rewarding career.
Goals for the next 12 months in your role?
My main goal is to become a top salesperson and provide excellent quality control with each new roof.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
I get to work with a top-notch team that supports me and provides everything I need to succeed.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Once a month, I spend a weekend out in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, where my family has a house built in 1883 and 40 acres of peanut crops. My best memories growing up were spent out there with family and friends. I’m hope one day to fix up the old house and turn it into a bed and breakfast.
Favorite sports team(s): The Texas Longhorns!
Is there a particular type of project you prefer working on? If so, why?
So far, all projects have been fun and exciting, because you never know who you will meet on a daily basis in roofing.
Is there a project you completed with Action that stands out as a favorite?
Watching a project being built after I bird-dogged and made the sale is rewarding. From start to finish, it’s exciting to keep the customer updated and make sure they are completely satisfied.
